zero waste

International Day of Zero Waste is a crucial event aimed at raising awareness about the pressing need for waste reduction and sustainable management strategies. To mark the day, Thromde Administration, Samdrup Jongkhar in collaboration with Jigme Namgyel Engineering College took a big step and powerful demonstration of commitment towards achieving Bhutan’s Vision of Zero Waste and cleaner and greener Thromde. About 840 participants (Students & Staff from JNEC and Staff of Thromde) took part in cleaning a 23 KM stretch of Highway from Rekhey View Point to Bhutan Gate including the Core Town in Thromde.

The purpose of International Day OF Zero Waste is to highlight the importance of adopting sustainable practices to minimize waste generation, promote recycling, and foster a culture of environmental consciousness. This day serves as a catalyst for mobilizing individuals, communities, and organizations to rethink their consumption patterns and acknowledge the detrimental impact of waste on the planet.

Today's event was a resounding success, with participants actively engaging in various cleaning activities to rid the surroundings of litter and waste and no waste was generated during the campaign. The collaborative effort showcased the collective dedication towards creating a cleaner and healthier environment for all. As a participant aptly remarked, "Our actions today shape the world of tomorrow, and it is our responsibility to ensure that our footprint is one of sustainability and stewardship."

The significance of Zero Waste International Day cannot be understated, given the escalating global waste crisis and its detrimental effects on ecosystems and public health. By commemorating this day, we not only underscore the urgency of addressing waste management but also inspire concrete actions towards achieving a zero-waste future. As a renowned environmentalist once said, "Every step towards reducing waste is a stride towards preserving the planet for future generations."

Public awareness plays a pivotal role in the success of initiatives like International Day of Zero Waste. By engaging with the community and disseminating information about the impacts of waste accumulation, we empower individuals to become catalysts for change in their own right. Through education and advocacy, we can create a ripple effect that transcends borders and inspires a global movement towards sustainability.

Zero Waste International Day symbolizes a collective commitment to reducing waste, conserving resources, and safeguarding the environment for generations to come. Today's event, spearheaded by Dasho Thrompon, Executive Secretary, President of JNEC, Coordinators from JNEC and Thromde Thuemis and the dedicated team from Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde and JNEC, exemplified the spirit of unity and purpose in working towards a cleaner, greener future.
